IHOP will give away free short stacks of buttermilk pancakes today in exchange for a voluntary donation to the Children's Miracle Network Hospitals.
To celebrate National Pancake Day, IHOP will attempt to raise $3.5 million from customers from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at restaurants across the nation. Proceeds collected in Alabama will benefit Children's of Alabama in Birmingham and the USA Women's and Children's Hospital in Mobile.
If IHOP's 2015 goal is met, it would bring the company's total fundraising effort for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other organizations to nearly $20 million. Last year, IHOP served 4.2 million free pancakes on National Pancake Day and raised $3 million for charity.
"All of the free pancakes served on National Pancake Day 2014 would create a stack nearly 12 miles high," the company said.
Miss Alabama Caitlin Brunell will be flipping pancakes, greeting customers and signing autographs at the IHOP in Hoover. Former Crimson Tide football star AJ McCarron offered his support of the pancake giveaway last month.
