And Schneiderlin said: “We’ve had some draws that could have been wins, especially against Chelsea, but we want to get that momentum and win 5, 6, 7 games in a row – then we’ll see what can happen.
“If we can get some wins on the spin, we would be back in contention.
“You see almost every weekend there is a surprise result in the league and a big team loses. It’s up to us to not lose and take advantage of those results. We know every game is important and that we need to keep ourselves as close as to the top as possible.
“We are all very determined. We know this is a big month for us and we want to do well in all the competitions we’re in, so every game will be massive for us
“Every game is a big game for this football club, especially in our position now.
“We need to look at each game as a cup final and to win every one until the end of the season.
“We can see that the gap is getting a bit bigger but it (the title) is not impossible.
“For the second part of the season we want to improve our game and win as many matches as we can to be a contender for the title and be in the Champions League, because that’s very important to this club.”
Manchester United 3 Stoke 0
If they can play like they did against Mark Hughes’ Stoke side
every week there is every chance they can do that but there have been
false dawns before under Van Gaal.
At least they have found their scoring boots again as they prepare to face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
United captain Wayne Rooney in particular is on a hot run with seven goals in seven games.
Schneiderlin said: “He has proved throughout his career that he’s one of the best players in the world. He has scored so many goals and he has the (Premier League) record for scoring the most for one club.
“He always has confidence. Footballers can have some spells without scoring – everyone has it, even Messi and Ronaldo, so it can happen to anyone.
“It doesn’t mean they have lost their talents, it can just happen in life.
Now he’s back scoring goals and he works so hard for the team in every game and has that winning mentality, which is priceless.”
Schneiderlin believes United fans are yet to see his best and he is determined ther do between now and the end of the season.
He said: “I’m very critical of myself. I want to do a lot better and I know I can do a lot better, because I think there are things that I haven’t shown yet.
“I’m working hard every day to improve and I’m confident I can show my qualities. I had a good spell in October and November then I had an injury, but I feel better and better as the weeks go on.
“The expectations here are to be the best and at 100% in every game and that’s something I relish. I love it. It helps you become a better player and that’s what I want.”
